Generator Docking Stations are used to connect portable energy sources like generators. Generator docking stations are easy solutions when power is interrupted for long periods of time (natural disaster, utility system failure, etc.). Docking Stations can also be configured as power output panels. Generator Docking Stations are also know as Generator Tap Boxes or Generator Connection Panels.
Generator Docking Station Types
Our Generator Docking Stations and Generator Connection Boxes are UL Listed, with all the needed features for attaching portable power sources (generators) to power distribution systems.
The standard Generator Docking Station consists of a Type 3R enclosure, a means for portable cable connection and copper bussing for connection. The generator connection box enclosure doors are hinged for portable cable access for worker access to the bus connection points with locks.
Portable cable connection can be accomplished with Series 16 Cam inlets, mechanical lugs or compression lugs. Standard ampacity ratings range from 100A. to 3200A. in both single phase ( 120V., 120/240V. ) and three phase ( 120/208V., 480V. and 277/480V. ). Standard building wire termination is to dual-rated mechanical lugs. Use of compression lugs on building wire is an option.

Series 16 Cams
Series 16 Cam inlets can be provided for portable cable connection to the facility or facility switches. These connectors are standard, inexpensive and familiar to generator operators. The “series 16 cams” are mounted inside a Type 3R or 4X enclosure with a hinged door for portable cable access located on the bottom of the enclosure.
Quick, safe connection of portable cables by qualified personnel is through this hinged door. The front door can be secured with a padlock for added security and the facility can now be safely brought back online.
Mechanical Lugs
Mechanical Lugs can also be used for termination of generator portable cable to internal bus bars. Appropriately sized dual-rated mechanical lugs can be mounted on the bus bars for easy connection of “bare ended” cable.
Compression Lugs on portable cable can be used for direct connection of portable cable. These lugs are bolted to the bus bars by using pre-drilled holes in the bars. The bus bars are located in a cable connection chamber behind a locking hinged door. This acts a dead front cover to protect live/energized components.
Standard termination of building wiring to the bus bars is accomplished using dual-rated mechanical lugs. An option is the use of compression lugs.
Posi-Lok™ Sequential Interlok
Posi-Lok™ Inlet Panels can be provided for portable cable connection to the facility or facility switches. Posi-Lok™ panels are part of a Sequential interlock system that requires the user to connect and disconnect each plug in sequence.
Cross-phasing is eliminated and “make-first / break-last” Ground connection is guaranteed. Cable connectors are similar to Series 16 devices, but are provided with a polarizing shield that keys each plug to the correct receptacle. Panels are UL Listed and rated 3R. Posi-Lok™ panels are frequently used for power distribution to waste water treatment facilities and for industrial/dockside applications.
