Company Switch

The power distribution systems of many facilities such as theaters, convention centers, arenas and auditoriums often require specialized panelboards for connection of portable electrical equipment. The electrical power for these temporary systems is fed by a specialized distribution panel, commonly known as a “company switch”.

Company Switch in a Type 3R, 4 or 4X Enclosure

Outdoor SwitchOutdoor company switches are for environmental conditions that require more than Type 1 rating. Union Connector can provide Company Switches with either Type 3R, Type 4 or Type 4X rating. Since these company switch units can be located in locations that expose them to the public and possible unauthorized access, physical security is essential.

COMPANY SWITCH

Basic Outdoor Company Switches are UL Listed and available with a variety of connection types – Series 16 Cam, Series 16 SafeCam®, Posi-Lok™, IEC 309 Pin & Sleeve and direct bus connection. The simplest switch has just the basics for powering portable power distribution loads. It consists of a Type 3R enclosure, main circuit breaker, receptacles and phase indicator lights.

Outdoor Company Switch Design

Our switch design philosophy is to have the Company Switch appear as inconspicuous as possible by locating all the Company Switch components inside an environmentally rated enclosure with a padlocked main access door and a latching “trap-door” for cable entry. This provides both environmental and physical security for the Company Switch. In addition, the exterior enclosure gives some degree of protection to the entertainment technician when connecting or disconnecting in inclement weather. The enclosure is designed to mount on a wall surface or electrical channel provided by the installing contractor. Feed can be top, bottom or side. The feed type will affect the size of the enclosure and should be coordinated with our Engineering department.
